4th Book: Bamidbar (Numbers)

This book is filled with a lot of action! It details the specifics about the Dwelling Place and gives an account from the time in the wilderness, teaching a valuable lesson of the price for not keeping YHWH’s commands. This book includes events such as the miraculous manna, giants, people being swallowed by the earth, even a talking donkey! This is not only a great read for details on the Mishkan, but also for exciting events.

Torah Portions 4.1 Bamidbar (Bamidbar) Chapters 1:1-4:20


This Torah Portion is called Bamidbar (במדבר), meaning, “In the Wilderness”.  YHWH tells Moshe to count the children of Yashra’el and where they should camp around the Dwelling Place, every time they travel in the wilderness.

This Torah Portion is called Naso (נשא), meaning “lift up.” This week we finish counting where we left off last week and the Dwelling Place is set up and dedicated.

Torah Portions 4.3: Bamidbar (Numbers) 8:1-12:15

This Torah Portion is called Beha’alot’cha (בהעלותך), meaning “When you ascend.” This time we learn about the what’s going on after the first year of being in the Wilderness and how things are so quickly turning sour.

Torah Portions 4.4: Bamidbar (Numbers) 13:1-15:41

This Torah Portion is called Shelach (שלח), meaning “Send out”. Moshe sends out spies to review the land of milk and honey, and the children of Yashra’el are punished to wonder the wilderness for 40 years.

Torah Portions 4.5: Bamidbar (Numbers) 16:1-18:32

This Torah Portion  is called Korah, (korach, קורח), (Qorah) the name of a Lewite we get to read about this time. The people are given into jealousy and make some bad decisions. YHWH punishes the people involved and Aharon and his sons are officially chosen (Again) as YHWH’s High Priests.

Torah Portions 4.6: Bamidbar (Numbers) 19:1-22:1

This Torah Portion is called chukat (חוקת), meaning “statue”. This time we read about the waters from the rock, Aharon and Miryam’s passing away, and the journey closer to the promised land.

Torah Portions 4.7: Bamidbar (Numbers) 22:2-25:9

The Torah Portion this week is called Balak (Balak, בלק), named after a king of Moab. This king seeks out a sorcerer to curse the children of Yashra’el and things don’t end up going his way. Oh, and there’s a talking donkey too.

Torah Portions 4.8: Bamidbar (Numbers) 25:10-30:1

Pinehas or Pinchas (פנחס), is Aharon’s grandson, and the zealous man that stops the YHWH’s plague from spreading by setting an example for the people. Moshe is near his time to pass away and now he setting up Yahuwshuwa (son of Nun) to be the shepherd that leads the people to the promised land.

Torah Portions 4.9 & 4.10: Bamidbar (Numbers) 30:2-36:13

Mattot (מטות), which means “tribes”, and Massei (מסעי), a meaning “journeys” are the last Torah Portions for the book of Bamidbar (Numbers). These portions are about how the land will be divided, and also talk about the cities of refuge.
